Excessive sweating of hands and feet treatment
The treatment of hyperhidrosis of the hands and feet, or as it is known as palmoplantar hyperhidrosis, is a great challenge, as there are many treatments for this condition that we will explain in this article, such as: topical treatments, systemic treatments, and iontophoresis. Botulinum toxin type A injections, or as it is known as Botox, or surgical removal of the sympathetic nerve, and this condition affects children and mules alike.[1]
topical treatments
The use of antiperspirant, used daily by most people, is one of the easiest ways to get rid of excessive sweating of the hands and feet, as most of them contain aluminum salts,[2] and their use is with a concentration of 20% aluminum chloride hexahydrate ( In English: Aluminum chloride hexahydrate) is the most effective way to treat this condition, as aluminum chloride closes the sweat pores and causes atrophy of the secretory cells within the sweat glands.
[1] Antiperspirants are available in several forms, some of which require a prescription and some are sold without a prescription. It is recommended to start using the non-prescription types;
As they cause less irritation than those prescribed by a doctor, and in the event that they are not effective, the doctor resorts to prescribing the stronger types, and some types of antiperspirants may contain deodorants that help control the smell of sweat but do not prevent its secretion,
[2] The following is an explanation of how to use antiperspirants to increase their effectiveness:
[3] Apply antiperspirant at night before bed. Use on completely dry skin. Avoid closing hands when antiperspirant is on them, as this can irritate the skin. Wash the aluminum chloride residue in the morning to reduce skin irritation
Systemic therapy
Anticholinergic drugs have been used in the past to treat palmoplantar hyperhidrosis due to the role of acetylcholine as a peri-glandular neurotransmitter within the sympathetic nerves of the sweat glands.[1] These drugs include: oxybutynin ( Oxybutynin, Glycopyrrolate, Propantheline, Benztropine, and other medications,[4] The use of these medications may cause some common side effects such as blurred vision, Dry mouth, constipation, excessive lethargy.
It should be noted that there are other types of medications that can be used to treat occasional hyperhidrosis caused by certain events, such as excessive sweating due to job interviews or presentations, and these drugs include beta blockers and benzodiazepines. These drugs are used to treat anxiety symptoms, by affecting the central nervous system.
